Happy Monday yall! Today we are featuring K&K Designs- It’s a Hit Events, a multi-tasking company here in Southeast Texas that can handle quite a bit for a wedding or event! From gorgeous stationary to custom chair cover (which Im STILL dieing for a few of their burlap ones they used at a wedding preview!)

I met Lauren and the rest of the K&K crew at a lunch social may months ago for www.southeasttexasweddings.com , and soon after we invited them to be a part of a styled shoot that Sarah e. Evans and I were doing! From those first peach invitations they designed for us I knew I was in love with K&K!

Meet Lauren!

Lauren with K&K It's a Hit Events

Hi Lauren! Thank you so much for answering our questions! How did you get involved into the wedding industry?
We have been designing interiors for over 40 years combined so the creativity has always come easy to us. First we started with conventions and other types of parties for friends and family and a community service organization we are all involved in. We then dabbled in weddings and tried to make them as personal as possible with custom monogramming and favors and other fun stuff. One day we had a bride ask us if we could do her invitations. We hesitated for about half a second before we said of course! We love the challenge of trying new things. Before we knew it we had people contacting us to design their entire event. We were getting calls for birthday, anniversary and holiday parties to showers and weddings. It just all kind of blew up from there.

Can you give us a little history of K&K designs?
Sure, this always makes me smile when I tell the story. In 2003 my grandfather unexpectedly passed away. (that is not the part that makes me smile) My grandparents had a big house on the river in Louisiana and earlier that year they purchased the house next door to my mother’s (Kathy) just in case anything ever happened to one of them. So after my grandfather passed my grandmother (Kay) packed up and headed west! She moved in next to mom and found herself with nothing to do. She has always been a worker and is fond of the saying “if you don’t use it you lose it” so her and my mom decided to get an embroidery machine and open up a little business. That was the beginning of K & K designs! Get it, Kathy & Kay! I would always help when needed and my middle name came from my grandmother Kay and our dear friend Carmen was always on hand to lend her talents. We jokingly tell Carmen that she is going to have to change her name to Carmen with a K! We made it official and formed a corporation with a 4 way partnership. Before we knew it K & K became what it is today.

What is your favorite part of working with brides?
This is a tough one, what isn’t to love! There is something amazing about helping them plan the biggest day of their lives. I love the excitement and creativity leading up to the big day but my favorite part has to be the first dance. It is amazing watching them in their own little world focused solely on each other for a few brief minutes. You can feel the love radiating through the room and I almost feel like we are all intruding on a private moment because they only have eyes for each other. We have done a lot of weddings and the romantic that I am still tears up at every single one of them.

What kind of experience can a bride expect to have coming to y’all for the first time?
On our first meeting with a bride we like to just sit and talk with them. We know with so many of us it can sometimes be a little overwhelming so we like to takes things slow and it is very casual. We like to talk about their vision of their big day and their wants and wishes. We then tell them everything that we can do to help. Some bride’s come to us just for invitations and monogramming and our rental items and some come to us for the whole shebang! Either way we put just as much time and attention to detail in every project. We love taking the entire event from concept to completion. By the end of the consultation the air is electrifying with the excitement flowing through the room. We are all talking and laughing and tossing ideas back and forth. The wedding industry is so rewarding in so many ways. We meet as complete strangers and are humbled at the fact that they pick us to make their dreams a reality and end up with life long friends! It truly is amazing!

Y’all have a pretty big team! How do y’all separate responsibilities amongst yourselves? Do you each work with a bride one on one or does everyone work all the brides?!

We all work as a team! So when a bride comes to us she gets the 4 of us along with a few others that we keep in our arsenal! We all have different talents that we bring to the table. Carmen is a master with our invitations, she bring years of experience to the table as a certified stationery and card instructor not to mention her floral designs. When we have a large event or wedding we bring in Jan, our florist extraordinaire who has over 20 years in floral design experience. Kathy is not only great with designing but a whiz with numbers and her organizational skills are scary! She will keep you on budget and make sure we have everything we need to make your day fabulous! If we are on the search for something special and unique for your big day I will be the one scowering the internet till I find that perfect something. I can also help you set up a wedding website and Pinterest account so your family and friends can stay connected with what is going on for your big day. I will also be the one to run your rehearsal and keep everything on track on your big day. Kay is the backbone to our whole organization. She keeps us all focused and on task. If there is any sewing or monogramming involved she had a hand in it. We also have Carmen’s husband Jack who takes care of all of our AV equipment, my Aunt Vicky who is our computer and graphics whiz and my husband Shane who is our muscle! Not to mention the boss of all bosses Sophi, my 2 year old, who is the inspiration for Whosie Cakes, our sweet treats division of our every growing business! It truly is a family business!

Thank you very much Lauren for your time with our vendor feature! We are so excited to have you as part of it!
