Happy Thursday!
Instead of just sharing pictures today for Design Thursday we’re doing a little how-to. Last month our bride Lynsey wanted two monograms for her and her now husband to hang on the church’s front door to greet their guests as they walked in for their ceremony.
For the moss covered frame, all you need is sheet moss, a simple frame, hot glue gun and glue, and scissors. All which can purchased at your local Hobby Lobby.
First you will lay out your moss upside down as well as your frame. Cut the section as shown, wrap around frame and secure with some hot glue. Be careful with your fingers though, the hot glue seeps through the moss very easily!
Now it’s time to assemble your pre-soaked floral foam letter. (For some reason I was unable to find the oasis (floral foam) monograms in the US after a quick google search, so I had to order them the United Kingdom.)
I centered the letters inside the frame, and used green wire so it would camouflage itself against the moss. This step actually required an extra pair of hands- one to hold them letter, the other to wire to the frame.
Time for floral, the best part! I used white roses with minimal hydrangea for these as theycomplimented Lynsey and Drew’s other floral. But these would be gorgeous with full color as well!
I like to start around the edges and then fill in the center!
Work all the way around until you have filled in all the holes and can no longer see any of the foam from any angle!
I would recommend standing it upright for a few hours before hanging it so any excess water can drip freely from the foam after being punctured by the stems. I just put down a couple paper towels underneath each to catch the water while sitting on the floor and leaning upright against the wall.
Lastly, just hang it on your door with a wreath door hanger. In a situation with a thick door that doesn’t accommodate a wreath hanger, you can use ribbon to loop around the inside of the door and hang over the top, then finish off with a bow! Voila!
