Hello again lovelies!
I was sitting in Washington DC last week in a conference on advertising, and the key note speaker spoke about setting yourself apart when you are in a job interview and telling the interviewer your “story”. For example, your accomplishments, your role models, etc. During questioning, a girl asked the speaker “what if I don’t have any role models?”
Its crazy that that one thing stood out to me, but its also crazy to think “how do you not have even one role model?” Who do you go to for advise, or look up to, or aspire to?
For as long as I can remember I have had tons of role models, and I have been in a situation where I was expected to be one for someone else.
I did pageants growing up, therefore I was to on my best behavior and act like a lady at all times because you never know is watching you. Then in high school, during my upper level years I held an officer position where the younger girls saw me in a responsible role, it goes on and on the chances I have had to either make a difference or just be a positive influence to someone else., and I have always taken that very seriously.
Now for my role models, man I have SO many. People I see everyday, my husband, family members, friends, and people I would love to meet one day or have already had the opportunity to do so, these people are mostly industry vendors!
If you have ever had a conversation with me you know I am slightly obsessed with Martha Stewart. I can remember being nicknamed her name even back in Junior High! I love, love, love her! I hope to one day meet her, but more on that later!
Luckily I have had the chance to meet two of my role models! Those two people being David Tutera and Lara Casey!
Notice the flashback to “Whimsical”? Ha! (This picture was taken before TMD was born!) I met David when I drove about 4 hours to meet him in Baton Rouge, La. during his tour with WETv. It was so awesome to hear him speak in real life, and then actually get to speak with him while he was signing my books!
Secondly, I know you have have read or heard me speak about Southern Wedding magazine, its the absolute best magazine on so many levels! So completely packed with actual inspirational images and photo shoots, its not about the ads (sound familiar for other magazines?) I know thats why I love it so much! I always s too because I cant wait to spend a hours pouring over the new issue!
I recently made the trip to Austin to attend Lara Casey’s Making Things Happen, and I cant believe how much I changed in that one day, surrounded my so many amazing people. It was life changing, and so much more than I thought it was going to be. But seriously that will need a whole other blog post in itself to share!
Anyway, I knew I loved Lara because of how open she is on her blog and with her business, but meeting her in person and hearing her story and how much passion she has to push us to Make Things Happen, all I can say is I know God had a plan when He worked it out for me to be in the conference room that day! Totally a God thing!
Now for a super fun side bar: I opened my email to THIS a few days ago! AHH!!! Internship, please?!!?!
Im so inspired by so many people that I meet and read about that I love the opportunities to hear them speak about how they have worked to be where they are now. I just get so excited I cant even speak clearly because I cant even imagine where God is taking me! Everyone has to start somewhere!!
Where are you starting? And have you?
A year from now, you will wish you had started today. – Karen Lamb (From Lara Casey’s MTH website)
Share with me YOUR role models!
Until next time!
xoxo, Tamara
I love you! Your heart for God and your passion inspire me! Sending big hugs from NC!!!
