Happy Wednesday y’all!

It sure has been lovely outside the past few days here in Texas right?!

Today’s Fitness Wednesday post is for those of you who may not have a gym membership, no equipment necessary here y’all! Just a good ole’ fashioned will to work an area that we (women) generally dislike about our bodies…Our butt and legs, (or maybe that’s just me!)

We are discussing lunges and how awesome they are to target these areas of the body! Today we are also right outside the World Gym Express, images are taken by BellaFotografica, and Marshall gives us the technical information on why we should all be doing lunges! Ready? Here we go!

What?

“Lunges are an exercise that will work mainly glutes (butt muscles) and quads (the thighs).”- Marshall

Why?

“Lunges are one of the best ways to build nicely shaped legs. The butt and thigh muscles do most of the work with the hamstrings helping a little; which does great to strengthen and tone your whole leg.”- Marshall

How?

“To perform a proper lunge, start from a standing position and take a long step forward. Lower yourself down into a position in which your front leg forms about a 90 degree angle at the knee and your rear knee nearly touches the ground. Next, rise forward into a standing position on the front leg. Be sure to press down with the heel of the forward food and not the toes. Pressing down with the heel will more engage the leg muscles to work more efficiently.”- Marshall

“Be sure not to lean forward. Try and stay upright with good posture, as this will lessen the strain on the lower back”- Marshall

For an added bonus (and work!) sometimes Marshall has me add dumbbells to each hand, or a bar for me to hold across my back to work on balance!

But trust me, you’ll feel the burn with just your body weight!

Until next time!

xoxo, Tamara
