It’s Wednesday y’all!

You know what that means, it’s Fitness Wednesday and we are discussing the good ‘ole push-ups.

As always, pictures are taken by Allen of BellaFotografica inside the World Gym Express in Beaumont, Texas and Marshall (my trainer) is explaining the what, why, and how of a great exercise that can be done right inside your own home. So read on, and then drop and give me 20.

What?

Pushups.

Why?

“Pushups help build upper body strength and use core muscles for stabilization.”- Marshall

How?

“Most people know how to do a normal pushup. Some things to keep in mind with them though is proper spine alignment and variations of hand width and grip.

The spine should be kept flat, in proper alignment without dipping down or making a big arch (camel hump).

Variations for the pushup can be using a close hand stance or wide hand stance, doing pushups with pushup handles, or if pushups on the floor are a bit out of your range yet you can always do them on an inclined plane. I don’t think doing pushups on your knees (elementary school style) is very beneficial compared with doing either normal or inclined plane pushups.”- Marshall

As Marshall mentioned above, inclined push-ups are a great modified starting point if floor push-ups are a bit hard. Even though I can do regular floor push-ups, Marshall still has me still do these every once in a while, and they still kick my butt. So don’t think you’re “weak” or “can’t do” regular ones and get frustrated and stop. The point is that you are doing work so stick with it and they will get easier. Yeehaw right?!
