Afternoon yall!

As I have explained I have become obsessed with anything vintage…while rummaging through one of my favorite antique stores, I noticed a beautiful chair behind the desk! I freaked (of course) and asked “HOW MUCH IS THAT?!!!” the owner said “umm..I can do like $50 for it”, so of course I pulled out my card and asked where do I sign?!

After getting it home I became aware of why it was so inexpensive, it was very stained but most importantly the crest rail at the top of the woodframe had been broken off! Howver I knew to look past that, as well as the aged and worn upholstery fabric. I also thought that was probably why it was beind the counter and why it hadnt been priced yet, the owners of the store were probably going to turn it into a project of their own before putting it out on the floor to sell!

Long story short, I got a few cans of paint stripper, my hand sander, new paint and new fabric, and made it over for for my first reupholstering project! I have refinished several pieces as well as covered chair cushions which are quite easy, but this one was quite a bit more labor intensive, but I love love love how it turned out!

Below, Im are the steps!

It had a horrible yellowed almost laquer, but it was cracking with odd accents of gold and light blue in some of the carving!

pulled off the old fabric

You can see where I had started stripping the paint off, had to remove and the fabric and cushions…took note of how it was pieced together so I could remember how it to get it back to its former glory!

the guts of my pretty chair!

Had to pull out hundreds of old staples!!

making pretty again!

After getting all the carving cleaned out with paint stripper and the end of some scissors, I painted the wood white, and secured the padding in and began to staple the BEAUTIFUL white silk dupioni my mom picked up for me in Tyler (I couldnt find any here!)

Once stapled in I trimmed the fabric as close to the staples as possible!

Done!

My chair is done!!

A close up of the trim, finsihing off and covering the staples!

Now, You think you’re ready to reupholster a piece?! It’s so fun, a lot of work, but rewarding to see what you accomplished! Be on the look out for this to be featured in our upcoming photoshoot with Sarah e. Evans Photography!!
